Matt Manning scored 23 points Monday evening, propelling the St. Mary’s boys basketball team over the .500 mark for the season with a 64-52 win over Fenwick at Fenwick on Monday.
“He’s a senior and our captain”¦ he had an outstanding game tonight and was a big reason in why we got this win tonight,” explained coach Kevin Moran. “This was a good team win against a good Fenwick team. They always play us tough.”
In addition to the barrage of points, Manning pulled down 11 rebounds while teammate Kyle DiFilippo scored 13 points of his own.
“Kyle came up big tonight when we needed him,” said Moran. “He’s been there all year for us.”
The win improves St. Mary’s to 5-4 on the season.
Swampscott 54, Marblehead 47
At Swampscott, the host Big Blue got 27 points and six rebounds from Steven Bowers to lead the way. The Magicians (3-5) got 13 points from Scott Temme and 11 from Will Millet in the hard-fought loss.
Winthrop 73, Saugus 67
At Saugus, the visiting Vikings knocked down 10 three-pointers in the first half, paving the way to a tough victory over the Sachems (5-3). Winthrop had four players score in double digits, including Joshua Babb, who led with 19. Saugus got a game-high 22 points from Shane Ripley while Brandon Wladkowski chipped in with 16 points.
Peabody 53, Revere 45
At Peabody, the host Tanners (2-5) got a big game out of forward Jared McCarron, who played 28 minutes, scoring 18 points to go along with five rebounds and three blocks in the home win. The Patriots got a team-high 15 points from Gio Gomez.
Salem 67, Beverly 56
At Salem, Christian Dunston’s game-high 19 points and Marvin Baez’s 16-point, eight- assist performance propelled the Witches by the visiting Panthers (5-2). Salem (5-2) also got a big game off the bench from Davonte Holloway, who scored 11 of his 13 points in the game-securing second quarter where the Witches outscored Beverly 20-8. Beverly was led by 16 points apiece from Jonathon Berchoff and Nick Cross.
