LYNN – More than 700 homes and businesses in Lynn are without power Tuesday afternoon after a fuse-like structure of an underground cable stopped working, according to National Grid Spokeswoman Charlotte McCormack.A feeder, similar to a fuse, stopped working on an underground cable at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, cutting of power to 755 National Grid customers, McCormack said.Customers are expected to have power back on by 4 p.m., McCormack said, but as of 5 p.m., 160 customers remained without power and were expected to have it restored by 8 p.m.The power outage comes days after 4,000 Lynners lost power Saturday morning when a fuse that connects two above-ground wires blew. McCormack said power was restored on Saturday within an hour, but several Lynn residents said their power didn’t turn on until 1 p.m. Saturday.McCormack said she believes the two incidents are unrelated. She said the cause of Tuesday’s blown fuse is under investigation. She said when a feeder locks out on above-ground cables, the cause can sometimes be attributed to an animal or tree branch coming into contact with the wires.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected]
