LYNN – For the Lynn Jets to succeed, it’s all about starts and finishes.Starting shifts strong, starting and ending periods strong, making scoring opportunities pay off, and playing hard from wire to wire. That philosophy certainly paid off yesterday at Connery Rink as the Jets saw most of their quality scoring chances end in the back of the Revere net, rolling to an easy 7-1 victory in the process. Now at 5-2 and 3-2 in the Northeastern Conference South, Lynn has won four of its last five games. The visiting Patriots continue to struggle, falling to 0-6-1, 0-3-1 in the league. With a 2-0 lead going into the second period, the Jets locked down the victory in two ways. First, they were able to handle Revere’s best, and only, sustained attack of the day without yielding a score. After that, Lynn pounced for three goals over a four-minute span leading into the early stages of the third period to secure the win.”For the second period, we were on our heels a little bit,” said Lynn head coach Joe Conlon. “But the two goals at the end of the second changed things. We finished our chances well, and it’s just another step in the right direction.”Junior Tony Uva, a source of positive energy all day for the Jets’ second line, started the surge when he grabbed a bouncing puck at center ice to create a two-man breakaway. Gliding down the right side, he held the puck until Revere goalie Adam Comeau committed before sending a perfect pass to sophomore Corey Wojewodzic to deposit in the open net.Two minutes later, Uva swiped the puck from a Patriot defenseman, strode to the left circle and whistled a nasty wrist shot cleanly over Comeau’s left shoulder.”We were watching him early in the game and noticed his top corners were weak,” said Uva, who finished with a pair of goals and two assists. “Once I got my shot, I made sure it was open.””Tony had a really nice shot, and he snapped it off quickly,” said Conlon. “Tony’s offense is a big key for us as his entire line is. If we can get more than one line going, we can be tough.”And just over a minute into the final frame, with Lynn on the power play, co-captain Kyle Devin sent a perfect backdoor pass to Steve Petkevich, who had a wide-open cage to deposit the puck into for his second goal of the day.”The coaches told us this is the time that we’re either going to break or we’re going to take off,” said Uva. “We’ve started winning, and it feels like we’re going to start taking it to everyone.”Our captain Kyle (Devin) said it the best: When our first and second lines play good, our third line will pick it up and we’ll all feed off each other.”
