School roundup: Swampscott track sweeps Gloucester

The Swampscott boys and girls track teams both came away with wins against Gloucester Wednesday, with the boys winning 44-41 and the girls, 59-22, at Swampscott.

In the boys meet, the Big Blue (3-1) got out to a strong start by sweeping the shot put. Robert Seymour took first with a 50-10 1/2. The Big Blue also had wins from Zach Blonder at 55 meters (6.7); Ian Munnelly, 300 meters (41.2); and Peter Hale, mile (4:36.2).

In the girls meet, the Big Blue (3-1) swept at 55 meters, led by Lauren Moran (7.4) and in the mile, led by Tess Gorman (5:54.7). They also had wins from Hailey Irwin (4-8); Vy Le, 55-meter hurdles (9.5); Melinda Wilson, 600 meters (1:50.6); Alison Carr, 1,000 (3:19.3) and Isabella Kornitsay in the 2-mile (12:58.9).

SWIMMING

Gr. Lowell vs. Tech

At Greater Lowell, the Tigers (2-3) came up short despite winning performances from Dylan Gonzalez in diving (210.68 points), Jonathan Lopez, the 100 breast (1:23.11) and Antonio Guanci, the 50 free (27.06). All three had personal bests.

Tech also won the 200 medley relay with James Martin, Lopez, Gonzalez and Guanci (2:07.37) and the 200 free relay with Martin, Jake Kennedy, Guanci and Gonzalez (1:55.64).

WRESTLING

St. John’s Prep 56, Xaverian 15

At Danvers, the Eagles (24-2, 2-0 Catholic Conference) had wins from Hunter Costa (106 pounds); Lou Bornstein (113); Joe Flynn (120); D.J. Lemieux (126); Fred Colberg (132); Jared Costa (138); James Smith (145) Ben Kincaid (152); Jim Messeder (182); Ian Butterbrodt (220) and Cory Jean-Jacques (285).

Lynnfield 45, North Reading 25

At Lynnfield, the Pioneers remain perfect at 13-0. Eric Kerr won at 113 pounds; Chris Yee (126); Joey Wise (126); Alex Pascucci (145); Josh Intorcio (160); C.J. Finn (170); John Klug 9182); Andrew Kibarian (220) and Tom Arsenault (285).

SKIING

St. John’s 100, Masco 356

St. John’s 114, Manchester-Essex 21

At Bradford Ski Area, sophomore Cael Schwartz was the overall winner with a time of 18.85. Pat McDermott and Joe Cavallaro also skied well. The Eagles are 3-0.
