The Tech boys basketball team found itself in a defensive battle at home against Greater Lawrence. The battle took two overtimes to be decided, as Tech came out on top 50-49 Friday night.
The Tigers found themselves down 41-39 with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Tech’s Shawn Osorio hit an elbow jumper with three seconds left on the clock to push the game into overtime. At the end of the first overtime, the score was tied 44-44. Tech’s duo of Osorio (22 points) and Lynwood Moore (18 points, 13 rebounds, 9 blocks) was too much for Greater Lawrence to handle. The duo combined to score 40 of Tech’s 50 total points. Marvin Avery is excited about his team’s future.
“My boys are playing really good basketball right now. It is a joy to coach and watch these kids improve game in and game out. I can’t wait for our next game to come,” Avery said.
Classical 52, Gloucester 41
At Gloucester, the Rams put the defensive clamps on the Fisherman, as Classical led 23-10 at the half. Leading the way for the Rams was Phillip Rogers (17 points) and Robert Custodio (13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals). Classical is now 7-5.
Tech extended its winning streak to two (3-5).
St. Mary’s 67, Williams 57
At St. Mary’s, St. Mary’s (6-4) held a slim 34-32 lead at the half. The Spartans responded well in the third quarter, as they out scored Williams 18-9. Leading the way for St. Mary’s was Tom Deveau (35 points). Senior John Teehan had a strong performance for the Spartans (14 points).
Lynnfield 68, Pentucket 54
At Pentucket, the Pioneers led 34-21 at the half, and never looked back. Leading the way for Lynnfield was freshmen Adam Buchanan (12 points, 9 rebounds). Lynnfield improved its record to 8-2.
Revere 73, Swampscott 66
At Swampscott, the Big Blue trailed 51-50 after three quarters. Revere opened up a five-point lead with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, and never looked back. Mike Ciambelli led the way for the Patriots (6-4) with a monster double-double (23 points, 25 rebounds). Tommy Sor had a solid performance for Revere (18 points and 9 assists). Leading the way for Swampscott (3-7) was Danny Trentsch (25 points) and Val Temin (18 points).
Saugus 64, Peabody 54
At Saugus, The Sachems (6-3) led 48-46 going into the fourth quarter. The Saugus duo of Brandon Wladkowski (20 points, 5 assists) and Shane Ripley (18 points, 7 rebounds) was the difference in the game. Peabody’s Maynard Wheeler (19 points, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) had a strong all around game. Peabody is now 3-5.
Danvers 66, Salem 44
At Danvers, Falcons took control right at the start, as they held a comfortable 14 point lead at the half. Salem’s Christian Dunstin (17 points) and Emilio Beato (9 pts, 7 rebounds) had strong performances. Salem is now 5-3.
Cathedral 52, Fenwick 38
At Cathedral, the Crusaders had a strong team effort despite the result. Leading the way for Fenwick was Matt Costello (13 points, 7 rebounds). Fenwick is now 2-6.
