LYNN — State Police said a city woman was taken to Salem Hospital after suffering a medical emergency and driving her car into a tree on the island of the Lynn / Nahant rotary Monday afternoon.
Massachusetts State Trooper Charles Luise said from the scene that a Lynn woman in her early 50s was traveling northbound towards the city from Nahant when she suffered a medical issue. She drove her car, a Honda CRV, across the two lanes of traffic in the rotary, over the curb onto the island and then struck a tree, Luise said. He said no other cars were hit and no other injuries reported.
Luise said that an off-duty Revere firefighter was traveling beside the woman and provided medical aid to her until fire and emergency personnel arrived. The woman was taken to Salem Hospital, Luise reported.
The incident attracted many onlookers out in the warm weather and tied up traffic as State Police cleared the scene.
