Hayward’s Restaurant to reopen today

January 15, 2013 by Sean Leonard

LYNN – Hayward?s Restaurant on Lynnfield Street was set to reopen today, just nine days after a car crashed into the business and caused significant structural damage, Hayward?s owner Anastasios Mavros said Monday.?There was a lot of damage. I had a good contractor who had to jack up the building and replace a main beam,” Mavros said. “They worked four days (on repairs), Friday to Monday.”Mavros said he wanted to get the repairs done quickly to minimize loss of business. In addition to the damage, he noted, “I lost a week of business.” He said he also wanted to get his staff of 10 part-time employees back to work as soon as possible.?The (Lynn) Building Department was very helpful, and the Police and Fire departments did a great job (at the accident scene),” he said.Police responded to a report of a car hitting Hayward?s at 10:24 p.m. on Jan. 6, according to a report by Officer Michael Hanlon.Police reported finding a woman in a 2011 Honda Accord that was parked in the restaurant driveway with damage corresponding to the damage police observed on the restaurant.?The operator was lying on the front seat as if she was trying to hide,” Hanlon reported. “I asked the female operator if she was driving this motor vehicle. She replied she was just a passenger and didn?t know where the operator was.”Hanlon reported the woman?s pupils were “pinpointed” and she slurred her speech.Diane L. Paglia, 37, of 39 Bishop Allen Road, Cambridge, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, third offense; operating a motor vehicle after a license revocation; and default warrants from Peabody and Malden District Courts.Paglia was taken from the scene to Union Hospital with complaints of head and neck pain, Hanlon reported.Paglia was arraigned on the charges Jan. 7 and held without bail until a dangerousness hearing Friday, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, a spokesperson for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett. A judge found her to be a danger at that hearing but she was released until a status hearing scheduled for Jan. 18, Kimball-Monahan said.Meanwhile, Mavros, who has owned Hayward?s at 125 Lynnfield St. for eight years, said the restaurant has a loyal local customer base and he?s confident customers will return. Hayward?s specializes in seafood and also offers traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner fare. The restaurant is open Monday-Thursday 6 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday-Saturday 6 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Its menu can be viewed online at www.allmenus.com/ma/lynn/229471-haywards-restaurant/menu.Sean Leonard can be reached at [email protected].
