SAUGUS – Saugus Library Director Diane Wallace said she received an interesting phone call Friday afternoon. So interesting, in fact, Wallace called the police to report the incident.?It was just a very angry man saying I?m being investigated for my role in the Duffy case,” said Wallace. “He claimed to be somebody he?s not and said he?s going to be visiting me. I think it was just another psychopath.”According to the Saugus Police log, officers responded to the library at 12:55 p.m. Friday, the day after former library worker Linda Duffy was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing more than $800,000.Wallace said the caller claimed he was from the “Department of Justice” and told her there were “irregularities” at the library. He also told her she “better get an attorney,” said Wallace.?Police are checking phone records and stuff,” she said. “I hope they find him. It was very angry and no-nonsense kind of crazy. I think this is just somebody with more time on their hands than brains in their head. I totally didn?t expect it. Everybody that I?ve dealt with from any state or federal agency has been very professional and gentlemen and ladies? This guy was just yelling at me. It?s kind of funny. I haven?t done anything.”Wallace said she asked for his name and number, but the caller refused to give her any information.?He said he was going to come and see me this week,” said Wallace. “I?m on the lookout for deranged people.”The police log said the call is under investigation.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
