SAUGUS — Saugus Schools Superintendent Richard Langlois was named one of three finalists to head up the Marlborough School District, according to Marlborough School Committee member Heidi Matthews.
Matthews said the School Committee voted Thursday night to name Langlois a finalist along with Washington state resident Tony Apostle and Christopher A. Bogden of Rochester, N.Y.
“We chose our company for the search back in October ”¦ and the last week was devoted to five finalists, and we had a sub-committee who interviewed all five and narrowed them down to three,” she said.
Matthews said Langlois will visit the school on Jan. 25. and the committee will vote on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m.
Matthews said the anticipated start date is July 1 and noted a salary hasn’t been determined yet.
The Saugus School Committee voted unanimously in September of 2011 to extend Langlois’ contract through 2015.
Langlois was named a finalist for the Pentucket Regional School District in December 2011, but the job went to Jeffrey J. Mulqueen last January.
Langlois could not be reached for comment Friday.
School Committee member Joe Malone congratulated Langlois and said he wished him “the best of luck.”
“He’s done a great job here in Saugus,” said Malone. “I hate to lose him. He’s done an outstanding job here in Saugus. I think Marlborough is going to get a great man if they do manage to land Rich. He’s an outstanding leader ”¦ He’s done a lot of good things for our system, but he has to look out for his own career.”
School Committee member Arthur Grabowski declined to comment. School Committee Chairman Wendy Reed, Vice Chairman Corinne Riley and member Frederick Doucette could not be reached for comment Friday.
According to the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, Marlborough has a population of 38,500 with a school district enrollment of 4,700 and 780 staff members. The school budget is $56 million annually.
