Lynnfield takes NEC/CAL meet

The Lynnfield-North Reading combined wrestling team took first in the overall Northeastern Conference/Cape Ann League meet Saturday at Triton High.The Pioneers had plenty of room in the penthouse, outpointing second-place Triton, 207-152.5. It is the first time the Pioneers, who went co-op five years ago, have won the event.”We’re pretty excited,” coach Craig Stone said. “we haven’t finished higher than third. It was nice to win the meet and have seven kids in the finals. It was almost like a dual meet.”Neither Stone nor the Pioneers are resting on their laurels.”We still have a lot of work ahead,” he said. “We have the sectionals and states coming up. Hopefully, we’re not going to peak too early.”The key, Stone says, is depth. Even though the program graduated seven seniors las year, “we’ve exceeded expectations.
