SWAMPSCOTT – Superintendent Lynne Celli announced she will no longer be serving as the district?s superintendent beginning June 30, 2013, but she is not leaving its leadership team. The School Committee approved at their Wednesday meeting that Celli will be moving from full-time superintendent, a position where she has served three years, to Executive Superintendent of Special Projects, a new part-time position created just for her to concentrate on projects such as the proposed elementary school, the STEM curriculum and to advocate for government-funded Chapter 70 money.?Lynne picked projects she was heavily involved in and delivered the goods so far, so we want to see them to fruition,” said Chairman Larry Beaupre.According to Beaupre, a committee will be formed in the next few weeks to hire a full-time interim superintendent who will handle the day-to-day tasks of the job. Beaupre said the quality of the candidate pool will determine how long the interim superintendent will stay. There were some objections from the audience on the negative effects administration turnover in Swampscott schools could have on students, an effect doubled by high school principal Layne Millington?s decision to look into a principal?s position at Peabody High School. Beaupre responded that Celli would be involved in the search for a new superintendent to ensure a “smooth transition so at least any setback is minimized.”Committee member Rick Kraft added, “Sometimes progress is never fast enough.”Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
