LYNN – The members of the legendary rock band ZZ Top will be bringing their sharply-dressed selves to City Hall’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium on May 18, and tickets go on sale Monday.”This is the biggest show we’ve had thus far,” said Community Development Director James Marsh. “Depending on your taste.”Marsh said the Boston Pops was big, but as far as classic rock goes, “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas” tops even Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Anderson played the auditorium last October and sold out the first week of September in what Marsh said at the time was a record. He expects ZZ Top will sell out the 2,000-seat auditorium even more quickly.Tickets don’t go on sale for the show until 10 a.m. Monday, but auditorium Production Manager Henry Ryan said he has already been getting calls for the show. He agreed ZZ Top will likely sell out quickly. He also said ZZ Top has something going for it that not all classic rock bands have these days: all original members. After more than four decades, the trio, composed of long-bearded and sunglass-wearing guitar and bass players and babyfaced drummer, are still together.Billy F. Gibbons, lead singer and guitarist, Dusty Hill, bass player, and drummer Frank Beard got together in 1969. Despite a hiatus or two, they’ve pushed out rock, blues and boogie on the road and in the studio for the last 44 years.”Yeah,” said Gibbons in a prepared press release. “We’re the same three guys, bashing out the same three chords.”Known for hits such as “Legs,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Gimme All Your Lovin” and “Got Me Under Pressure,” the band is still touring steadily and promoting its album “La Futura,” its first studio album in nine years that was released on Sept. 11, 2012.”Having all original band members is unusual,” Ryan said. “It’s not really the norm now.”Another original coming soon to the auditorium is “Bad to the Bone” singer George Thorogood, who will be performing March 7.For more information on ZZ Top and other shows coming to the auditorium or to purchase tickets, call the auditorium at 781-586-6770 or check it out online to purchase tickets for the show.Chris Stevens can be reached at [email protected].
