The Somerville girls basketball team came into St. Mary’s with a 10-game winning streak. The Spartans would not let the Highlanders leave Lynn with an 11-game win streak, as St. Mary’s won 79-65 Thursday night.St. Mary’s came flying out of the gates and sprinted to a 32-18 lead at the half. Somerville would only get as close as nine points for the rest of the game. Leading the way for St. Mary’s was the duo of Brianna Rudolph (25 points) and Sharell Sanders (11 points, 10 assists). The Spartans (17-1) will be playing for the Catholic Conference championship tomorrow night, when they square off against Williams.Peabody 41, Revere 28At Peabody, the Tanner defense was the difference in this game. The first time these two teams met, Revere scored 34 points in the first half alone; it was a different story the second time around. Peabody’s Alex Lomasney (7 points) did a great job holding down one of the Patriots’ leading scorers in Gena Restiano. Carolyn Scacchi recorded a double-double for the Tanners (13 points, 10 rebounds). Peabody is now 14-3.Winthrop 52, Saugus 24At Saugus, the Sachems found themselves down 27-14 at the half and could never fully recover. Leading the way for the Sachems was Norma Waggett (9 points). For Winthrop, Temison Meggison was the game’s high scorer (20 points).Fenwick 61, Matignon 26At Matignon, Fenwick had no problems sharing the wealth, as 12 different Crusaders scored a basket. Fenwick had a commanding 32-15 lead at the half. Leading the way for Fenwick was the duo of Kate Lipka (7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block) and Gianna Pizzano (10 points, 5 steals). Fenwick is now 12-8.Essex-North Shore 38, Tech 37At Tech, Tech coach Kevin McDormand is happy with his team’s performance.”I have a lot of really nice kids on this team. They are well rounded and always do well in school as well as athletics. I’ll take 11 of these kids out there any day of the week,” McDormand said.Leading the way for Tech was Hattie Watkins (23 points). Mimi Gonzalez had a solid performance for the Tigers (9 points).Swampscott 54, Marblehead 33At Marblehead, Anna Greene had 17 points and Ara Talkov, 14 points, for the Big Blue. Swampscott (8-10) can qualify for the state tournament with a win over Whittier.Marblehead led 17-15 at the half, but a pair of freshmen, Meghan Hartman and Olivia Cooke, came off the bench and gave Swampscott the spark it needed. The Big Blue put the game away with a 26-3 run in the third quarter. Emily Freedland had 17 points for the Magicians.Gloucester 38, Danvers 37 (OT)At Gloucester, the score was tied 27-27 after three quarters and neither team could find the basket in the fourth quarter. Gloucester scored the first six points of overtime and held on for the win. The Fishermen led by four points but a Kasey Sherry three at the buzzer brought Danvers to within a point.
