LYNN – Established on Jan. 1, 2012, the YMCA of Metro North evolved when the Greater Lynn YMCA acquired and merged with the Melrose YMCA, and today serves the communities of Lynn, Nahant, Peabody, Lynnfield, Stoneham, Saugus, Revere and Melrose.Last week the YMCA Metro North added five new members to its board of directors: Deb DeVenne, Andy Freed, Diana Kerry, Hong Net and Robert Schneider.DeVenne is a senior vice president/team leader for People’s United Bank. With over 35 years in the banking industry, she has held senior positions as both Cambridge Savings Bank as well as Citizens Bank. She is a graduate of Bentley College (now Bentley University), she has served on the North Shore Chamber of Commerce board, the United Way Women’s Leadership Committee, the Girl Scouts Golf Committee and the Commonwealth Institute Advisory Board.Freed, president of Virtual Inc., is a graduate of Harvard College and John F. Kennedy School of Government. Virtual Inc. has been honored as one of the Boston Globe’s “Best Places to Work” and Inc. Magazine’s “Fastest Growing Companies in America”. Freed is also vice president of the Harvard Varsity Club, serves as corporator and member of the strategic planning committee for Hallmark Health Care and is a board member for Suffolk Business School’s Center for Innovation and Change Leadership.Kerry is the director of the Public Policy Institute at North Shore Community College. She is a longtime educator, world traveler and ardent promoter of civic involvement. As the sister of U.S. Secretary of State and former Sen. John Kerry, she has seen government and politics up close. Kerry graduated from Smith College and also holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Tufts University as well as a Masters in Theatre Text and Performances from King’s College in England. Kerry has served as a former teacher, administrator and drama director at schools around the world.Net is a child support enforcement Officer for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. In addition, he is a City Councilor for Lynn. After arriving in the United States at age 15, he attended Holyoke Catholic High School and graduated from UMass Amherst. Net is a volunteer for Lynn Youth Soccer and the Khmer New Year Planning Committee. He has also founded the International Language Center to teach English and computer skills to students.Schneider is chief operating officer of Lahey Clinic Medical Center North Shore. Responsible for strategic planning, financial performance and operational management for the 225,000 square foot medical center in Peabody, Schneider previously worked with the Henry Ford Health System in Michigan. Earning a Master’s degree from Wayne State University, Schneider has served on the American Medical Group Association Board of Directors and the Steering Committee for the Group Practice Improvement Network.
