February 28, 2013 by ktaylor

SWAMPSCOTT – Swampscott High School Principal Layne Millington has been named Marblehead High School principal effective July 1.?He is genuine, a decision maker, he truly cares about all students and faculty, he has an open door policy, he never turns anyone away, he is a great listener, he is not afraid to make effective change,” Marblehead Superintendent Gregory Maass said in a statement as reasons for the hire. “Everything that Layne Millington has to offer will strengthen Marblehead?s high-performing high school.”The announcement is no surprise in Swampscott, as Millington said at a School Committee meeting Tuesday, Feb. 19 he had wanted to leave since April 2012 after three years in Swampscott because of “the dynamics” and lack of unity in the district.?I love Swampscott. I love the school. I love the kids. But at this point in time ? I?d like to move on in peace and dignity,” he said.Millington?s departure from Swampscott leaves yet another administrative position up for grabs as the School Committee forms a search committee for an interim half-time superintendent to complement Superintendent Lynne Celli?s new position as Executive Superintendent for Special Projects while they search for a full-time superintendent to begin July 1, 2014.Millington said in the Feb. 19 meeting that Swampscott has had 13 different principals and superintendents in a decade.Millington was a finalist for the Peabody High School principal?s job as well as being a finalist in Marblehead.Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
