The Lynn English Hall of Fame induction dinner will be held Tuesday, March 19, at the Porthole Restaurant in Lynn beginning at 5 p.m., with the dinner at 6.Several prominent athletes, including longtime basketball and baseball coach Ron Bennett and assistant athletic director and football/baseball star Dick Newton, will be inducted.Also to be inducted will be Bart and Diane Conlon, their late son and daughter (Michelle and Michael) and their daughters Melissa and Marianne. All swam and played soccer for the Bulldogs, and their daughters also coached swimming.The English Hall of Fame is not exclusively for athletics. Other inductees are Dr. Miriam Morse, John Timothy Phelan, Carol Ruggiero, Francie Sudak, Michael Sullivan, Edward Turmenne, Donald Twomey and Dr. Joseph Wescott.Cost of the dinner is $50, and those attending have a choice between Prime Rib or Chicken Cordon Bleu.Tickets are available at (781) 477-7366, or through principal Thomas Strangie and the Hall of Fame Committee.Classical’s Hall of Fame dinner will be Saturday, April 27, at the Nahant Country Club. The event will begin with a 6-7 p.m. social hour, followed by a dinner and the induction. The event includes both athletic and other achievements.This year’s inductees are: David Anderson (1988, baseball); John “Buddy” Barrett (1965, baseball); William Drislane (1918, football), Nicole Foisset (1996, basketball), Karim Gibson (1994, soccer), Robert Healey (1979, baseball), Dick Kimber (1973, football); Nicholas Kostan (former principal and school superintendent), Charles Lavrentios (1978, football), Edward Raffery (1939, achievement), Robert Remson (1969, baseball), Robert Reynolds (1977, football), Charles Rowe (1973, swimming), Dick Ruth (athletic director for 28 years), David Solimine Sr. (1953, achievement), Peter Stavru (1932, achievement), John Strobis (1970, baseball) and Janice Verdini (1981, softball).Tickets are $40 each and may be purchased at Lynn Classical High School (781-477-7404).
