The St. John’s Prep wrestling team had two wrestlers place in New Englands: Ian Butterbrodt, second place, 220, and Corey Jean-Jacques, fifth place, heavyweight.Butterbrodt defeated opponents from New Milford, CT; Ellsworth, ME; and Haywood, VT; before losing to a wrestler from Glastonbury, CT in the final. Butterbrodt finished his season 57-1.Jean-Jacques defeated opponents from Westerly, RI and Hall, CT before losing in the semifinals to a wrestler from Fairfield Warde, CT. He won the consolation final against a foe from Belmont.Meanwhile, Marblehead heavyweight Sean Taylor also made it to the New Englands. He won his first two matches, the second of which came against Connecticut state champ Wolfgang Fiasconaro. Taylor lost his quarterfinal match against Donovan Lozada of Chicopee, the second-ranked wrestler in Massachusetts; and he lost another match 35 minutes later.TRACKSt. John’s had two shot putters place at the New Englands, held at the Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Community College.Junior Evan Dombrowski of Gloucester set an indoor St. John’s record with a throw of 55-6 1/2, good for second place.Senior David Roy of Melrose threw 54-0 to finish fourth.Rich Tenorio can be reached at [email protected].
