SWAMPSCOTT – The Humphrey Street Police Station is scheduled to be finished at the end of April, four months after the planned completion date, according to an update by the Police Station Building Committee.Committee member Phil Merkle blamed the delay on an exploded sewer pipe that “cost us three months” and “TLT Construction?s apparent inability to provide us with a satisfactory schedule.”Several remarks were made from committee members about the long-awaited schedule that they received Wednesday from the construction company. The project?s budget manager, Sean Burke of PMA Consultants, attempted to put finality on the subject when he said, “Their schedule is their schedule and we do our best to hold them to it.”Greg Carell, the project?s architect, reminded the committee Wednesday of the extra billing fees they needed to pay his team for the months of work outside of December, which he put at about $10,000 a month. Carell said he would most likely not charge the town for the last month of work.Chairman Patrick Jones said the committee would have to talk to the town to find out how to compensate for the additional cost because of the delay in finishing the station. “We need to find out how to deal with that issue in terms of budget and put a timeline together,” he said to the committee.Jones said as of this month the station is 72 percent complete.Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
