NAHANT – Months before hearing “I do,” Nahant bride-to-be Kristin Lamando burst into tears after hearing selectmen say they just don’t know to allowing her to use a town park for her wedding.Lamando said she had her heart set on a wedding at the gazebo on Bailey’s Hill for July 6 at sunset, deeming it the perfect way to showcase Nahant’s beauty.Unfortunately, the sunset, which would be at 8:30 p.m. on that date was much too late for selectmen’s taste, who were concerned residents would be upset by loud music and noise from the party.Lamando’s request for a private party of a few hundred was a first for the site, and the selectmen’s concerns did not end with music. Parking, they said, which is already an issue during the Fourth of July weekend in Nahant, would be difficult to coordinate.”I’d like to see it shortened,” said Vice Chairman Rich Lombard. “I’m concerned about the neighbors and it being over the Fourth of July weekend.” He suggested moving the end time from the requested 11 p.m. back to 9 p.m., with the band shutting down at 8 p.m. Lamando protested that Lombard’s suggested 2 p.m. start time would be too early for guests if it’s a hot summer day. With the Town Administrator absent from the meeting, selectmen moved to table the issue to their next meeting to develop the right restrictions and guidelines for Lamando’s use of the park.”Neither of us wants an improperly memorable wedding,” Manning said.Lamando teared up at the decision, saying it will leave her only three months to settle the details for the site before it is approved, including hiring a police detail, firefighter and public works cleanup crew.”I have to send my invitations,” she said, sniffling.Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
