SAUGUS – Close to 200 students and parents packed the Belmonte Middle School cafeteria Monday morning for the second high honor roll breakfast.Families enjoyed pancakes, eggs, sausage and bagels while teachers spoke about the achievements of the 85 students who were honored.?You have to get all As, 90 or above,” said sixth-grader Cesare Aloise.Aloise, who said his favorite subject is science, was with his mom Cara Aloise at the breakfast.?I?m proud,” said Cara Aloise. “Very proud. He works hard.”Aloise said her son?s honor roll achievement will be one of many.Sitting across from Cara and Cesare Aloise was Diana Fondulis and her sixth-grade daughter Sophia Fondulis.Sophia Fondulis said her favorite subject is math, and Monday was her first time making high honors.?It feels awesome,” she said.?I?m extremely proud,” added Diana Fondulis. “The way that she?s going (there will be more awards) and she?s in sports and in the band.”Belmonte Middle School Principal Kerry Robbins handed out certificates to each of the students and said the breakfast is a new tradition at the school that just started this year.?This is our second high honor roll breakfast,” said Robbins. “We have 85 students this trimester. High honors is 90 or above ? they?re invited to the high honor roll breakfast with their families. The honor students, which are 80 and above, get a certificate along with a Zynga gift card for a free frozen yogurt.”Robbins said students are “up for the challenge” to make the high honor roll, and noted the breakfast acts as a good incentive.?We?ve actually had a lot of parents and students advocating when they received their report cards to ensure that their students are on high honor or honor roll, which is great,” she said.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
