SAUGUS – Visitors to the Saugus Library may be noticing a pair of new faces in recent weeks as Nicole Rheaume and Martha Morgan were hired as the newest members of the library staff.Morgan was hired as the new part-time children?s librarian after working previously as the school librarian at the Stoneridge Montessori School in Beverly and is hitting the ground running with a slew of new programs.?We?re starting up some new programs like a baby story time and a Mother Goose story hour for anyone under four,” said Morgan, who has also worked for the Beverly and Peabody public libraries. “It?s the perfect combination. I love books and I love working with children.”Morgan said the Saugus Library has been a great place to work since she started last month.?It?s a good size ? and people have been very friendly,” she said. “And it?s busy. It really gets a lot of use. In the afternoon it?s quite a buzzing place. There are kids doing homework, younger kids doing puzzles and having books read to them, and older kids on the computers.”Rheaume has a degree in theater and just started the library and information services master?s program at Simmons College. The Saugus Library is Rheaume?s first library job and she said she said she?s excited to be in Saugus.?It?s really good,” she said. “I really like it here. Everyone is really friendly. I love how tight-knit the library is. You see the same people come in every single day and it?s really nice.”As a library associate, Rheaume handles book processing and customer service. Rheaume said as she was growing up she was always drawn to libraries.?As I got older I actually realized that?s something you can actually do,” she said. “I decided to go to library school to actually pursue that. I like being able to help other people and libraries are a great community.”Library Director Diane Wallace said it?s “fabulous” to have some extra hands on deck.?It?s actually giving us a little breathing room so if someone is out sick we?re not totally shorthanded, we do have some wiggle room,” said Wallace. “They?re fitting in very nicely. Martha has some great ideas. She and Bethany (Templeton Kelm) are working well together, and planning programs that we need and compliment each other. Nicole is creative and very knowledgeable about computers and she?s catching on.”Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
