However, coach Nick Faggas is hopeful Monday morning’s 3-2 decision of English at Fraser Field sets the Patriots on a new path.Senior Tommy Portrait pitched complete-game four-hitter, holding the Bulldogs at bay after yielding two first-inning runs. Portrait struck out four as Revere improved to 1-3. English (1-2) dropped its second straight.”Hopefully this lights a flame and gets us going. We put a whole game together today. Tommy pitched well, our defense made all the plays and we executed on offense. We have to play small ball and move runners up and we did that,” said Faggas.English grabbed a 2-0 lead after one on run-scoring singles from Ben Bowden and Drew Gentile but couldn’t break through for the remainder of the game, leaving a number of runners stranded in scoring position.Revere scratched back on John Pasadore’s RBI double in the third inning, Portrait’s game-tying double in the fifth and pinch-hitter TJ McDonald’s game-winning single in the sixth that delivered Kyle Norton, who singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Pasadore and Portrait both had two hits.Sophomore Lucas Harris (5.1 IP, 2 ER) absorbed the loss for English while Andrew Napoleon finished up.Beverly 7, Classical 2At Beverly, the Panthers improved to 3-1 behind senior captain Alex Toomey’s dominant complete-game performance. Toomey, recovered from some early-season back issues, struck out 12, walked one and scattered four hits in his first start of the season.The Panthers broke it open with four runs in the third and three in the fourth. Harry Brown had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI; Luke McDonald had two hits and an RBI; and Toomey contributed two doubles and two RBI.Kyle Devin’s two-run homer in the seventh accounted for Classical’s (2-2) offense.Swampscott 10, Winthrop 3At Swampscott, the Big Blue (1-3) broke into the win column as junior Al Wallach worked a complete game. Trailing, 3-2, the Big Blue erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning to blow the game open. Junior first baseman Brendan McDonald (4-for-4, HR), sophomore Ryan January (3-for-3) and senior Michael Lan (2-for-2) spearheaded the offense.”Al pounded the strike zone with three pitches. He kept us in the game and we made the plays behind him. We put in a full game for the first time this season,” said coach Jason Calichman.Williams 5, St. Mary’s 3At Fraser Field, the Spartans (3-1) suffered their first loss. Trailing, 4-0, St. Mary’s mounted a three-run rally with two outs in the fifth on Chris Butler’s two-run double and Dan Donovan’s run-scoring double but could get no closer. The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh to no avail.Butler, Alec Costanza and Justin Oblenes all had two hits. Clay Yianacopolus (4.2 IP) took the loss.Danvers 8, Marblehead 5At Seaside Park, the Falcons (4-0) sent 12 men to the plate during a seven-run fourth-inning outburst. Tyler Dustin’s two-run double and Ray Arocho’s two-run single were the key hits in the inning. Dan Connors led an 11-hit attack with three hits while Brandon Hyde went six and one-third innings for the win with relief help from Raf Eyluf.Marblehead (2-1) had an early 2-0 lead, then rallied for three runs in the seventh. The game ended on a bases-loaded line out to second base. Brian Daly (3-for-4, two RBI), Connor Green (2-for-3, two runs, three SB), Trey Blackmer (2-for-4) and Matt Koopman (two-run single) supplied the offense.St. John’s Prep 10, Everett 1At Danvers, the Eagles (5-1) scored in every inning. Justin Snyder earned the win with nine strikeouts while allowing three hits in five innings.Peabody 6, Salem 2At Salem, the Tanners (4-1) got a game-winning hit from Frank Lowry in the fifth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie, and a two-run single from Tanner Moquin in the second that erased
