NAHANT – Springtime weather this week may cause some Nahant residents to eye the causeway project?s progress more closely, but Town Administrator Andy Bisignani said the beach will be ready for Memorial Day.?[The Department of Conservation and Recreation] assured us that there will be parking by the end of May,” said Bisignani on Wednesday.Bisignani said project is on time to open in November and that the town was pleased with the DCR?s level of performance on the project, but he was concerned that the “lack of sewall” would be detrimental to the town in terms of causeway flooding during the coastal storms in the fall and winter.?There?s nothing we can do about it, except to call attention to the concern,” said Bisignani.Bisignani and other town officials are all too aware of the damage coastal storms can cause to infrastructure. Last week the town wharf, damaged during the winter?s storms, was repaired using emergency funds from the town and the Community Preservation Act, which totaled $50,000, said Bisignani.Next on Bisignani?s list to fix is the Tudor Beach seawall, which also experienced storm damage over the winter. Bisignani said if that sewall isn?t fixed, it could prove to be a liability for the town.Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
