LYNN ? A machine fire at the Riverworks General Electric plant in Lynn forced the evacuation of one building in the plant Thursday morning.No one was injured in the fire, which was put out by the building’s automatic sprinkler system.The fire is extinguished and the scene was cleared as of 10:20 a.m., says Lynn District Fire Chief Tim Collyer.Fire Chief Jim McDonald, the fire department was called to a working fire at building 42, first floor, in the Riverworks complex off Western Avenue, at 9:50 a.m.A machine called a Zyglo machine, according to McDonald, “malfunctioned or overheated.” The machine sprays dye into seams of parts the machine, which is a quality-control measure.A sprinkler system in the building activated and kept the fire confined to the machine, and then the fire department sprayed it with a hose.An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun, said GE Spokesman Richard Gorham.
