Former English High star Cara Crowley had a monster day for the Salem State University softball team.

The Vikings swept UMass-Dartmouth at Salem, winning the first game, 10-9, and the second game, 8-3. In the first game, Crowley went 3-for-3 with three RBI and in the second game, she went 2-for-2 with three RBI. One of her hits was a base-clearing double in the fifth inning that put Salem up, 8-2. Crowley plays left field.

A couple of other local players came up big as well. Shortstop Lauren Garchinsky of Saugus had a hit (RBI triple) and two RBI in the first game, and a hit and a run scored in the second. First baseman Christiana Cipriani of Peabody had a hit and scored a run in the first game and had an RBI double in the second game.

The Vikings (18-8) have now won 12 games in a row.

Lowe, Vousboukis pick up wins

Two former Northeastern Conference softball pitchers picked up wins as Anna Maria College swept Wheelock College earlier this week. Former Saugus High pitcher Nichole Lowe allowed four hits and struck out three in a 10-1 Anna Maria win in the first game. The Wildcats won the second game, 18-1, with former Swampscott High pitcher Angela Vousboukis picking up the win. Vousboukis went five innings, allowing five hits and one earned run. Anna Maria is 4-28.

Lynners excel at Emmanuel

Former Classical High pitcher Jenny Garrity is having a productive season at the plate for the Emmanuel College softball team. Garrity is hitting .377 (second-best on the team) with five doubles, a home run and 25 RBI, also second-best on the team. In a win over Wentworth on Wednesday, she had an RBI single in one game and a double in the other.

Freshman Marianne Halas of Lynn/St. Mary’s is hitting .267 with three doubles and six RBI.
