SAUGUS — Saugus Police said a reported stolen vehicle resulted in a traffic stop that attracted numerous state and local police cruisers to Route 1 South near Target Thursday evening.
“It had nothing to do with what’s happening in Boston,” Saugus Assistant Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti said Thursday evening. “An individual is in custody, we’re just assisting with the recovery of the vehicle and arrest.”
Reports of multiple State Police and Saugus Police cruisers by Target on Route 1 South and Kelly’s Roast Beef appeared on social media at approximately 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Giorgetti said that State Police had seen a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier from Danvers. He said the suspect was apprehended at the scene and Saugus Police were called to help.
He referred further questions to State Police, but said the person arrested was familiar to Saugus Police.
State Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
