Roundup: Fenwick girls lose to Austin in wild one

In a game where the teams combined for over 40 goals, the Bishop Fenwick girls lacrosse team lost to Austin Prep, 22-20, in overtime at Austin Prep on Monday.Crusaders coach Karen Guillemette said that it was not the highest-scoring game she had ever been part of ? but it was “close, though.”Fenwick (4-5) led 11-4 at halftime, but it was a 16-16 tie after regulation. The Cougars had a little bit more in overtime.Annette Ruggiero led Fenwick with seven goals. Other goal-scorers for Fenwick were Grace Celona (4), Natalie Emerson (3), Tessa McLaughlin (3), Anna Moulton (2) and Caroline Crawford (1).Nicole Votta made nine saves for Fenwick.Wilmington 19, Swampscott 8At Wilmington, Alexa Goldman scored a hat trick for the Big Blue. Bridget Lawless added two goals. Catt Singley, Chloe Dorgan, and freshman Olivia Leach (first career goal) each finished with one goal. Goalie Katie Papele recorded eight saves.BOYS LACROSSEPeabody 8, S’scott 7At Swampscott, Keifer Heckman scored the game-winning goal with 13 seconds left in overtime as the Tanners (6-3) came from behind. Ryan Wolff added two goals and Nick Ouellette had one goal with four assists. Peabody was trailing 6-3 at halftime, but the defense, led by Andrew Nassar, shut down Swampscott in the second half. Peabody tied the game with 33 seconds left.”We held possession throughout overtime,” said Peabody head coach Anthony O’Donnell.Swampscott (2-5) had a balanced attack with Kevin Marescalchi, Brian Santry, Josh Rothwell, Jason Digman, and Griffin Hunt each scoring a goal. Goalie Max Cohen had 14 saves.”I’m very proud of our team,” said Swampscott head coach Josh Field. “We are looking forward to playing Peabody again.”Saugus 18, Lynn 7At Manning Field, C.J. Randolph (7 goals) and Nick Benoit (6 goals) led the Sachems’ attack. Ronnie Jarosz added two goals.Joe Russo, Miguel Viveiros, and Chris Sanderson each scored a goal for Saugus (5-2, 2-0). Nick Furtado played solid defense against Lynn’s (1-5) top scorer.”This was a great game,” said Saugus head coach Todd Pierce. “We responded to a tough loss, especially since it starts a four-game run of conference opponents.”Revere 6, Winthrop 2At Revere, the Patriots (3-2) played well as a team. Austin Powers spearheaded the defensive effort for Revere and Doug Zingalli was sturdy in goal. Tyler Iovanna had the goals for Winthrop (1-5).In other action, Shawsheen defeated Tech, 19-0.BOYS TRACKShawsheen 85, Tech 47Justin Lewis won the 400 hurdles in 1:09.49 and the high jump (5-8). Kennedy Gomes won the 100 meters (11:78) and Michael Lora, the discus (88-4). Tech (0-3) also won the 4×100 relay with a time of 49.70. The relay team consisted of Gomes, Lora, Jalil Gibson, and Lashawn Snow.
