Tennis: Classical boys edge Salem

Third singles player Aaron Eng prevailed 6-4, 6-1 in his varsity debut for the Lynn Classical boys to account for the winning point in a 3-2 victory over Salem at Breed on Monday.

“It was his first-ever varsity tennis match,” Rams coach Chris Hayward said. “It was a big win for him and the team as well. He was very excited.”

The Rams (4-1) also got wins at first singles from Seng Ly (6-1, 6-2) and at first doubles from Philip Chea and Rene Perez (6-0, 6-0).

St. Mary’s 3, O’Bryant 2

At the GEEAA Courts, O’Bryant forfeited both doubles matches, and the Spartans (3-1) got the win when Brady Ryan, a sixth-grader from Lynn, won at third singles, 6-0, 6-3.

Revere 3, English 2

At Revere, the Bulldogs (0-3) got wins from their doubles teams: Shivam Patel and Billy You at first doubles, 6-2, 6-1; and Joe Calnan-Thomas Long at second doubles, 6-2, 6-0.

The Patriots got wins at first singles from Mladen Pepic, 7-5, 6-2; at second singles from Ryan Tran, 6-1, 6-1; and at third singles from Nick Mucci, 6-1, 6-1.

S’scott 4, Winthrop 1

At Winthrop, the Big Blue (4-0) winners were: Matt Jacobs, first singles, 6-0, 6-0; Val Temin, second singles, 6-1, 6-2; Matt Gilberg-Sam Crimmins, first doubles, 6-1, 6-2; and Ian Crimmins-Mike Pindrus, second doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

Marblehead 3, Danvers 2

At Danvers, the Magicians got wins from Griffin Butterfield, 6-2, 6-0; Dimitri Vlassov-Michael Forte, first doubles, 6-2, 6-0; and Ben Goldstein-Jason Frost, second doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

The Falcons got wins from Nick Lisichenok, first singles, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3; and Gabe Ochonski, second singles, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

Lynnfield 5, Ipswich 0

At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (1-0) got wins from James Hook, first singles, 6-0, 6-0; Nick Romano, second singles, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3; Luv Karia, third singles, 6-1, 6-3; Kevin Carr-Alex Rugato, first doubles, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3; Mike Romano-Mike Demirichian, second doubles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Beverly 4, Peabody 1

At Peabody, the Panthers (4-0) got wins from Peter Coletti, second singles, 6-4, 6-1; Antuan Tran, third singles, 6-0, 6-0; Eno Jahaj-Chris Tocco, first doubles, 6-1, 6-4; and Connor Gill-Owen Bolas, second doubles, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Mike Warren won at first singles for Peabody, 6-4, 6-3.

GIRLS TENNIS

English 5, Revere 0

At English, the Bulldogs’ (2-1) winners were: Scarlet Santana, first singles, 6-1, 6-0; Ashley Lon, second singles, 6-0, 6-1; Alison Tobin, third singles, 6-2, 6-1; Kim Nguyen-Viktoryia Belina, first doubles, 6-2, 6-0; Stephanie Downs-Emily Ma, second doubles, 6-1, 6-2.

Classical 4, Salem 1

At Salem, the Rams (2-2) got wins from Wendy Matanganyidze, first singles, 6-2, 6-1; Ashley Ellis, second singles, 6-1, 6-1; Monivan Cheth-Messeret Kebede, first doubles, 4-6, 7-6, 7-2; and Linda Khuth-Katrina Syrakos, second doubles, 6-1, 6-2.

S’scott 5, Winthrop 0

At Swampscott, the Big Blue (4-0) got wins from Anna Raptunovich, first singles, 6-0, 6-0; Vivien Gere, second singles, 6-0, 6-0; Veronica Pyatigorskaya, third singles, 6-0, 6-0; Allegra Walker-Jessica Zolott, first doubles, 6-1, 6-0; Michelle Shnayder-Natalyia Andrushchenkes, second doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

M’head 5, Danvers 0

At Marblehead, the Magicians (2-0) got wins from Tory Booth, first singles, 6-3, 6-2; Annie Ryan, second singles, 6-0, 6-0; Sarah Katz, third singles, 6-1, 6-1; Meghan Gabel-Kelly Mealey, first doubles, 6-2, 6-1; Amanda Gilberg-Meaghan Hanratty, second doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

G’ster 3, Saugus 2

At Gloucester, the Sachems (3-3) got wins from Andrea Davis, first singles, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5; and Julie Bellia-Deanna Velasquez, first doubles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-0).

L’field 4, Ipswich 1

At Ipswich, the Pioneers (2-0) got wins from Kelley Nevils, first singles, 7-5, 6-0; Ava Grava, second singles, 6-2, 6-1; Emily Shea-Izzy Figucia, first doubles, 6-2, 6-1; and the sisterly team of Sloan and Logan Colby-Nunziato at second doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

Beverly 4, Peabody 1

At Beverly, third singles player Dany Chhan was the lone winner for Peabody, 6-3, 6-1. The Tanners (4-1) absorbed their first loss this season.
