St. Mary’s pitcher Victor Molle was the story against Cardinal Spellman. Molle stymied the opposition all game long, as St. Mary’s defeated Spellman, 8-0, at Spellman Thursday night.”Victor was sensational tonight,” said St. Mary’s coach Derek Dana. “He pounded the strike zone all game long and really kept the Spellman bats off balance. It was a pleasure to watch Victor pitch so well.”Molle went the distance, allowed six hits, walked none, struck out seven and did not allow a run. The Spartans’ offense did all of its damage in the second inning, where St. Mary’s scored six runs. St. Mary’s had six hits in the top of the second inning; five of those were extra-base hits (4 doubles, 1 triple). Molle also helped his own cause out at the plate (2-3, RBI). The rest of the St. Mary’s offense came from: Scott Betts (2-3, 2 RBI); Dan Donovan (2-3, 2 doubles) and Chris Butler (1-3, triple, RBI). The Spartans are now 6-3.Rockport 2, Lynnfield 1At Rockport, the Pioneers received a magnificent performance from junior pitcher Andy Carbone. Carbone pitched a complete-game three-hitter, struck out six and allowed two unearned runs.”Carbone was great tonight,” said Lynnfield coach John O’Brien. “He really kept us in the game, but we just could not generate enough offense for him tonight.”Lynnfield took an early 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Rockport scored all of its runs (2 unearned) in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Lynnfield catcher Tyler Palumbo had a strong performance (triple). Lynnfield (2-5) plays Ipswich Saturday morning.Danvers 1, Beverly 0At Beverly, it was a pitcher’s duel between the Falcons (10-0) and Panthers (6-3).”This was not a surprise to me,” said Danvers coach Roger Day. “Beverly is a good team and I am just happy we were on the right side at the end of this one.”Danvers scored the game’s only run in the top of the fourth inning. Ray Arocho started the game on the mound for the Falcons (5 innings, 1 hit, 5 strikeouts, 5 walks, 0 runs) and Brandon Hyde recorded the save for Danvers (2 innings, 2 hits, 3 strikeouts, 0 walks, 0 runs). Beverly senior pitcher Cam Rogers was almost unhittable throughout his outing (7 innings, 3 hits, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 run).Greater Lawrence 16, Tech 1At Fraser Field, the Tigers’ lone bright spot came in the fourth inning, when Michael Aybar hit a solo home run.
