The Bishop Fenwick softball team’s weekend in Nantucket could have not gone any better. Traveling overnight for the first time in program history, the Crusaders swept a Saturday doubleheader from Nantucket, 15-3 and 9-1, to improve to 6-5 overall.”It was a great weekend, successful in a lot of ways. We had a lot of different players contribute. We played great defense in the second game and were pretty solid in the first. It was good to see because we’ve been struggling on defense,” said coach Paul Lyman, adding that the JV team also won twice. “It was a great trip for program bonding for both teams.”Junior pitcher Natalie Moore won both games, allowing five hits while striking out four in Game One while scattering four hits and striking out two in Game Two.Senior captain and left fielder Dimitria Yeannakopoulos (4-for-4, four RBI) sparked the attack in the first game while junior shortstop Bridget Corcoran went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI and sophomore designated player Brianna Hemion was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI.In the second game, junior third baseman Gianna Pizzano had three hits and an RBI, junior second baseman Jen Crovo had two hits with two RBI and junior first baseman Charlotte Powers drove in a pair of runs.BOYS LACROSSEPeabody 15, Smithfield (RI) 4The Tanners (7-4) also made the most of a weekend trip to Bryant College. It gave them an idea of what it takes to play lacrosse at a Division One program. Coach Pressler spoke with them and then their kids watched our practice and talked to our guys. It really motivated us for Saturday. We had a great warmup and it carried over into the game. We put our foot down on the gas right away and we played to the top level we can,” said coach Anthony O’Donnell. The result was a resounding win against Rhode Island’s two-time defending Division Three state champion. Senior Keifer Heckman, who will continue his lacrosse career at the University of Southern New Hampshire, scored four goals and four assists to raise his career total to 231 points, breaking the career mark of 225 points set in 2003 by current Peabody assistant coach Greg Welch.Heckman tied Welch when he set up his stepbrother Nick Ouellette for one of his four goals.
