Lacrosse: Spartan boys goalie sparkles in loss to Williams

St. Mary’s goalie Kyle Torosian set a school record with 35 saves in a 9-3 loss to Archbishop Williams in Braintree.”This was the best game in my two years at St. Mary’s,” said Spartans head coach Shawn Anderson. “Our guys left every ounce of energy on the field tonight.”The Spartans (2-8) received goals from sophomores James Torosian, Richard Carrigan, and Nick Amenta. St. Mary’s had tough luck as they hit three posts and they had a goal waved off because the officials ruled the clock ended. Despite all of this, the Spartans trailed 4-3 after three quarters.”We were resilient tonight, but give them credit because they are a top team in the state,” stated, Anderson.Saugus 10, Winthrop 2At Stackpole Field, Nick Benoit scored six goals to lead the Sachems (6-4). C.J. Randolph and Ronnie Jarosz had two goals each.”It was a hard fought game,” said Saugus head coach Todd Pierce. “The score was 3-0 at the half and I was happy with the way the team stepped up after a tough weekend.”Dan Sullivan stopped nine shots in net. The win also brought Saugus to .500 in the Northeastern Conference at 2-2.Danvers 7, Swampscott 6At Phillips Field, Josh Rothwell notched a hat trick for the Big Blue, but Swampscott (2-8) was unable to come back in the end as they fell to the Falcons.Brian Santry, Griffin Hunt, and Kevin Marescalchi each added a goal. Goaltender Max Cohen had 11 saves.Peabody 8, Gloucester 6At Peabody, the Tanners (8-4) were led by Kiefer Heckman (4 goals) and Nick Ouelltte (3 goals). Eric Hennessy provided the insurance goal off a faceoff win on the fast break.GIRLS LACROSSELynnfield 13, Swampscott 7At Lynnfield, the Big Blue tied the score in the second half before Lynnfield cashed in with six unanswered goals.Alexa Goldman and Gillian Trask each tallied three goals. Bridget Lawless also scored a goal for Swampscott (1-8).Beverly 8, Danvers 6At Beverly, Camden Vitale(3 goals) and Grace Otterbein (2 goals) helped the Panthers (5-3) escape a second half comeback by Danvers. Katie Pietrini netted a goal and she played well defensively.Beverly gained a 7-1 advantage at halftime before Danvers scored five sporadic second half goals to close the margin.
