Classical to hold fourth all class reunion Saturday

LYNN – The last time the Lynn Classical High School Alumni Association held an all class reunion over 300 people showed up.”The situation is now that we really don’t know how many people might show up,” said alumni President Paul Stafford. However, he hopes it is a lot.The All Classes Gathering, which will be held Saturday at St. Michael’s Hall, 25 Elmwood Ave. from 7 to 11 p.m., is among other things an important fundraiser.Stafford noted that part of the association’s motto includes the phrases “connecting with the past” and “contributing to the future.” Part of that includes helping students not only prepare but pay for college through scholarships.Last year the alumni handed out eight $1,000 scholarships to seniors and another 48 in what Stafford called name scholarships,or memorial scholarships dedicated in honor or memory of someone.”Add both together and we gave out $52,000 in scholarships,” he said. “Since 1995, when the alumni gave out its first scholarship, we’ve given out 783 scholarships totaling $624,042. There are probably few alumni associations that can tout those figures.”But the evening isn’t all about fundraising, Stafford said. Sponsored by the Alumni & Friends of Lynn Classical High School the night is also about connecting with friends, reliving past glories and fond memories, and hanging out with old friends, Stafford said. This will be the fourth all class reunion the Alumni Association has held.”Normally all the individual classes are responsible for their own reunions,” he said. “My class, The Class of 61, would hold its own, the Class of 2009 would have its individual reunion but look at the alumni motto ? connecting with the past.”Tickets to the party cost $25 at the door and proceeds will benefit the Named and Alumni Scholarship program. The gathering is open to all Classical alumni and friends, and former LCHS music teacher Michael Smith will disc jockey for the night.”Come out for a good time,” Stafford said. “Enjoy the company and help kids afford college.”Chris Stevens can be reached at [email protected].
