SAUGUS – A Revere man is in jail after police reports say he broke into several cars at Bacci’s Northend Pizzeria in Saugus Thursday, and then fled on his bicycle to Sears where he stole a Keurig coffee machine.Damien Centrella, 39, of 44 Constitution Ave., Revere, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the daytime, shoplifting over $100 by asportation and larceny under $250, on Thursday at 6:48 p.m.Lynn District Court Judge Matthew Machera ordered Centrella held on $500 cash bail at his arraignment on Friday and he was sent to Essex County Jail.According to court records, Saugus police officers responded to Bacci’s Northend Pizzeria on Howard Street for a report of a man “breaking and entering into a couple of motor vehicles.”The report states witnesses told police the man attempted to steal a GPS, but after being confronted by the car’s owner, the man dropped the GPS and fled on his bicycle onto Lynn Fells Parkway toward the Main Street overpass.Shortly after, officer James Scott reported seeing a man matching the suspect’s description riding his bicycle in the parking lot of the Square One Mall, enter Sears and walk out about five minutes later with a large box and no bag. The report states he got back on his bike and headed down Route 1 South.”At this point I pulled up alongside and put my blue lights on ?” said Scott in his report. “I had first asked him what was up with the Keurig coffee maker which was the box that I had seen him exit the store with. He replied he had taken it from the store.”Scott checked the man’s license and he was identified as Centrella and the report states he also had a warrant out of Revere for receiving stolen property.Centrella is due back in court on May 7.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
