Lacrosse: Fenwick boys solve Lowell Catholic

Bishop Fenwick relied on a balanced attack as it blitzed Lowell Catholic, 14-3, in Catholic Central League action Monday afternoon at Donaldson Field. The Crusaders improved to 8-6 and solidified their hold on third place in the league.Senior captain and attacker Troy Reinold powered the attack with three goals and four assists. Junior attacker Kyle Russell contributed two goals and four assists while freshman attacker Chris Napolitano and sophomore midfielder Mark Naelsnik added two goals and an assist apiece.Senior midfielder and captain P.J. Usalis had a goal and two assists, sophomore midfielder Aidan Moulton notched two goals and midfielders Kevin Hannon, a junior, and Chris Carney, a sophomore, had a goal each. Sophomore goalie Dylan Maida had eight saves for the win.Winthrop 10, Lynn 2At Lynn, the Vikings (2-9) pulled away on the strength of a seven-goal second half. Junior goalie Andy Almedia anchored the win with 15 saves. Pierce Lamberton (three goals), Dan Brogan (two goals, two assists) and Adam Holden (two goals, assist) powered the offense.Swampscott 7, Gloucester 4At Gloucester, the Big Blue built a 4-3 halftime lead, then clamped down on offense in the second half for their third win of the season.Gr. Lowell 10, Lynn Tech 1At Greater Lowell, Charlie Park had the lone goal for the Tigers, now 0-9. “Everybody hustled. We scored with 11 seconds left in the game,” Tech coach Jay Richards said. “The kids don’t give up.”Marian 11, St. Mary’s 6At Lynn, the Spartans (3-12) gave up a goal in the waning seconds of the first half that seemed to turn the momentum in Marian’s favor for good. Nick Amenta had two goals to lead St. Mary’s while junior Ryan McDonough notched his first career goal. Goaltender Kyle Torosian finished with 14 saves.”It’s a great group and they’re playing hard. We have four left to go and we just have to band together and stay strong,” said coach Shawn Anderson.GIRLS LACROSSEMarian 15, St. Mary’s 13At Framingham, the Spartans ran out of time in their comeback attempt. Marian led by three goals at the half. St. Mary’s cut the deficit to two goals, but could not get closer.”The improvement from the beginning of the season to today is like night and day,” said St. Mary’s head coach Al Eaton. “They’re learning my entire system. It’s a different style of lacrosse than they played before.”Ashley Morelli scored six goals. Gabby Crugnale had four goals. Leenie Murphy had two goals.Marblehead 19, Wilmington 12At Marblehead, Kiley Fischer recorded her 400th career point for the Magicians (12-1). Fisher scored five goals and had two assists. Meggie Collins had three goals and four assists. Tyler Phillips scored four goals. Cassie Rodgers had two goals.Swampscott 18, Gloucester 12At Swampscott, the Big Blue (2-10) had three different players score three goals: Bridget Lawless, Lauren Sullivan, and Chloe Dorgan. Four other players finished with two goals. Katie Patele had 11 saves.Peabody 18, Danvers 14At Danvers, the Tanners (8-3) qualified for the postseason. Nicole Napolitano had six goals and six assists. Sarah Napolitano scored four goals. Courtney Smith had a hat trick and an assist. Mikayla York (2 G, 1 A), Bianca Muscato (1 G, 2 A) and Aly Bortone (2 G) all helped out. Cheyenne Jackson stopped 11 shots.Bishop Fenwick 20, Lowell Catholic 9At Lowell, the Crusaders (9-5) clinched a spot in the postseason for the sixth time in seven years. Anna Moulton (seven goals) and Annette Ruggiero (six goals) led Fenwick’s high-octane attack. Natalie Emerson added two goals.
