Cadigan leads St. Mary’s boys lacrosse to win

Richard Cadigan had a big day for the St. Mary’s boys lacrosse team, scoring six goals and assisting on two others in a 14-2 win over Mystic Valley at Malden.The Spartans (4-12) lost to Mystic Valley earlier in the season, but turned things around in the rematch. Sophomore Jim Torosian had four goals and two assists, senior Cam Grenham, two goals; sophomore Nick Amenta, a goal and four assists and freshman Kyle Smith, one goal. Kyle Torosian had seven saves in the win.Minuteman 15, Tech 2At Manning Field, Conner Robertson and Charlie Park scored for Tech with Antonio Guanci getting an assist. The Tigers are 0-12.Lynnfield 11, Manchester-Essex 4At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (7-7) had strong games from Dan Sullivan (4 goals, 3 assists); Matt Boehner (3 goals, assist); Andrew Cranpe (2 goals, 2 assists) and Andrew Waisnor (2 goals). Jack Ganter (12 saves) was in net.Swampscott 16, Winthrop 4At Phillips Park, Kevin Marescalchi and Alex Baleazza each had four goals and Devin Wall, three, as the Big Blue improved to 4-9. Anthony Rizzo, Robert Driscoll, Brian Santry, Josh Rothwell and Jason Bigman had single goals. Scott Powell (8 saves) held down the fort in net.GIRLS LACROSSESalem 11, St. Mary’s 9At Salem, Gabby Crugnale had seven goals and Ashley Morelli, two, for the Spartans (3-9).Bedford 14, Swampscott 4At Bedford, Alexa Goldman, Lauren Sullivan, Bridget Lawless, and Gillian Trask scored for the Big Blue. Mackenzie Robertson played well in the midfield and Katie Papele had 12 saves in net.SOFTBALLPeabody 8, Saugus 2At Peabody, Tanner pitcher Shelbi Wilson took a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Saugus broke up the Wilson bid for a no-no. Wilson did record the win for Peabody (7 innings, 1 hit, 2 runs, 0 earned runs, 4 walks). Peabody wasted no time getting on the board, as Mikayla Wallace hit a first inning grand slam to give the Tanners a 4-0 lead. Peabody was never threatened after the first inning. Jess Raymond had a strong day at the dish (2-3, 2 doubles). Peabody is now 10-2.Winthrop 7, Salem 0At Salem, the Vikings (10-4) had two three-run innings in the first and fifth. Kelly Swanson hit a key two-run double off the centerfield fence in the first to set the tone for Winthrop. Alli Scarfo (2-run single) put the Vikings up 7-0. Michele Lasala (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs, stolen base) also had a big night.The pitching duo of Maura Lanza (4 innings, 2 hits, 4 strikeouts) and Taylor Thomas (3 innings, 3 hits) kept the Salem offense silent all afternoon.Lynnfield 14, Austin Prep 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (9-5) jumped out to a 12-1 run and put the game away with a Jackie Whelan two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Whelan went 4-for-4 with seven RBI. Freshman Annika Han go the win in the circle. Lynnfield needs one more win to qualify for the state tournament.In other softball action, KIPP defeated Community Charter 11-9, improving its record to 1-7, 1-6 in the MCSAO.Joyce Erekson can be reached at [email protected].
