Track: Peabody boys, girls squads sweep to NEC North title

The Peabody boys and girls track teams are the Northeastern Conference North champions following a sweep of Revere Tuesday at Peabody.The boys meet pitted two 6-0 teams against each other with the title on the line. The Tanners won 93-38 with double-winner Chris Cennami setting a school record in the 100 meters (10.6). The old record (10.7) was set by John Studley in 2007. Cennami also won the 200 (22.8).Peabody also had wins from Thomas Drover, 400-meter hurdles (59.1); and the javelin (154-5); Alex Marcus, 2-mile (10:50); Ben Martinez, triple jump (42-3); Doug Connolly, high jump (5-10); Marcus Vieira, discus (126); freshman Owen Brewster, 400 (53.2) and Christian Cedullo, 110 meter hurdles (15.1).The Tanners (7-0) have won the title every year but one since coming to the Northeastern Conference.”We thought we would be competitive, but our goal was to get through one meet at a time. We had a good, focused effort against a very, very good team,” Peabody coach Fernando Braz said.Revere’s Kristi Nushi won the mile (4:47.7); Omar Morales, the shot put (44-5) and Bobby Rose, the long jump (19-5). Karim Sahila took second in the 400 hurdles and in the 110 hurdles. Revere won the 4 x 100 relay.St. Mary’s 95, Matignon 37St. Mary’s 108, Mt. St. Joseph’s 19At Cambridge, Andrew DiMaiti was a triple winner for the Spartans (5-4) in the 200 (22.7); 400 (59.1) and triple jump (33-2). The other St. Mary’s winners were Tommy DeVeau, javelin (116 feet); Jordan Manthorne, 100 (12.1); Mike Ksander, mile (5:29.4); Josh Bertrand, 400 hurdles (61.1) and 100 hurdles (23.0); Liam Foley, 800 (2:30); Garrett Molea, discus (64-2); Bertrand, Manthorne, Xan Alleyne, Marvin Bony, 4 x 100 (47.4); and Tony Mwangi, Foley, Alex Maghsoudi, Luc Zikianda, 4 x 400 (4:19).Marblehead 77 2/3, Gloucester 58 1/3At Marblehead, the Magicians secured their third Northeastern Conference/South title in the last four years behind strong individual performances. Leading the way for Marblehead (7-0) was Josh Beloff, who completed an undefeated season in four events, winning the 200 (22.4), the long jump (20), the triple jump (41-5), and as a member of the 4×100 relay team (46.7). The other members of the winning relay team are Chris Wiley, Alex Fusegni, and Kevin Touch.Also winning for Marblehead are Wiley, 100 (11.7), Conrad Rosseau, 110 hurdles (16.8); Mitch Norcross, high jump (5-10); Eric Dumais, shot put (43-11); and Dan Marino, discus (115-8).Fenwick 73, Williams 62At Peabody, the Crusaders rebounded from a tough defeat against Spellman to win at home. Nick Tambini won both hurdle events, the 110 and the 400, while Charlie Maistrellis won the long jump and placed second in the 100 and 200.Also winning for Fenwick (8-1) are Dan Deschenes, 800; Patrick Corcoran, discus; Andrew Carlin, high jump; and Miles Connor, javelin.GIRLS TRACKPeabody 88, Revere 31At Peabody, the Tanners (7-0) successfully defended their NEC title. Pam Zabala won the shot put (35-5) and the discus (98-5); Carrera Dean, 400 hurdles (70.1); Catarina Rocha, 2-mile (11:13); Hayley Dowd, 100 meters (13.1); Sabrina DeAngelo, 100 meter hurdles (17.20); Macayla LaChance, 400 meters (62.3); Sydney May, 800 (2:33); Mackenzie Picardy, mile (5:40); Heather McLean, long jump (16-9) and Sarah Hoffman, triple jump (32-2).”One of our goals was to win the NEC Large,” Peabody coach Joe Rocha said. “The kids responded very well.
