SWAMPSCOTT – The Swampscott Senior Center and the Traffic Advisory Committee will be holding a public forum on Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. for residents to discuss redesigning the intersection at Monument Avenue, Burrill and Humphrey streets.Using a $10,000 grant from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, Dave Castellarin said the town will eliminate the merge from Burrill Street to Humphrey Street, leaving drivers the only option to turn onto Humphrey via Monument Avenue. The Burrill Street merge will be marked with “do not enter” signs and covered with rumble strips so emergency vehicles can still pass over them.?It will improve that intersection a lot,” said Castellarin.Castellarin, town accountant and member of the traffic committee, said though there is a plan in place, the forum will be to hear comments and suggestions from residents.?This is a first step,” he said.Castellarin said he wouldn?t be surprised if some made recommendations at the forum for streets in the intersection?s surrounding area to be more grid-like, with more one-ways added to accommodate the narrow streets.View Swampscott Traffic Study in a larger mapKait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
