It was Coaches vs. Cancer night at Breed Middle School, and the Classical softball team won its game over Malden,m 11-2, and helped further the cause by raising more than $2,000.Franki Galeazzi (3-4, 3 runs scored) led the way for Classical (11-4). The Pioneers had a five-run bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead 5-2. Hannah Travers hit what proved to be a game-winning two run double to give Lynnfield its first lead of the game (3-2). Annika Han took care of the rest, as she silenced the Ipswich offense (7 innings, 6 hits, 2 unearned runs, 2 strikeouts). Travers was a home run away from hitting a cycle (3-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored).Everett 8, Swampscott 2At Everett, Swampscott was down 2-0 at the end of the third inning. Swampscott’s Tessa Beane hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to one (2-1).”We played pretty well today even though the score may not depict that,” said Swampscott coach Frank Kowalski.Swampscott (7-8) needs three more wins to qualify for states.BOYS LACROSSESaugus 18, Lynn 8At Saugus, The Sachems qualified for states for the first time since 2008.”This feels really good,” said Saugus coach Todd Pierce. “I am really proud and excited for the boys.”Leading the way for Saugus was C.J Randolph (5 goals, 4 assists). Victoria Digiacomo anchored the Tanner defense.Swampscott 13, Gloucester 12At Gloucester, Swampscott was down 10-6 early in the second half. The Big Blue outscored the Fisherman 7-2 for the rest of the second half. Leading the way for Swampscott was Priscilla Sullivan (4 goals). Alexa Goldman and Gillian Trask both had three goals each for the Big Blue. Swampscott is now 3-14.Danvers 16, Fenwick 14At Danvers, the Crusaders (12-6) got five goals each from Anna Moulton and Grace Celona.
