Track: Fenwick girls win CCL meet

The Bishop Fenwick girls track team won the Catholic Central League meet at Fenwick on Saturday, capping an undefeated season in the league (9-0).”It was a great season for the girls and a good way to end it,” Fenwick coach Jay Smith said.Fenwick won the meet with 160 points.Top performers for the Crusaders were: Senior captain Rose Fantozzi, won long jump (14-10 3/4), second, 100 (12.9), anchored winning 4×1 relay, which also included Alexa Pellegrini, Kaleigh Price and Nicole Lizotte and capped its own undefeated season with a season-best 53.2; freshman Sydney Packard, won 800 (2:23) and ran leg of winning 4×8 relay (10:35 combined time) that also included Hannah Smith, Jen Jordan and Arianna Maida; Andrea Klos, won 400 (63.0); senior Carolyn Claveau, won discus (97-7) and third, shot put; and senior captain Maggie Lepley, second place in both shot put and javelin.The St. Mary’s girls finished second (104 points) behind Bishop Fenwick.Top performers for the Spartans were: Zuzu Haefner, won high jump (4-10), second in 400 hurdles (74.0), second, 100 hurdles (18.3), received award for scoring most points of any girl in meet; Carol DiMaiti, won 100 (12.7), won 200 (26.9), fourth in triple jump (29-7); Toni Vinciarelli, fourth, 100 (13.1), fourth, 200 (27.8), fifth, long jump (13-4); Chandler Capozzi, second, 400 (64.4); Michaela St. Cyr, fourth, javelin (81-2), sixth, 800 (2:48.06); Carmel Lozzi, fourth, high jump (4-4), fifth, 400 hurdles (81.6); Rachel Hanlon, third, triple jump, 29-8 1/2; Tia Foglietta, fourth, mile (5:43); Larissa Bogomolov, fourth, discus, 81-2; Annie Mailo, fifth, javelin, 79-6; Samantha Saunders, sixth, 2-mile, 14:14; Megan O’Neil, sixth, 400 hurdles, 81.7; 4×400 (Hanlon, Capozzi, Foglietta, St. Cyr), third, 4:48; 4×800 (Sarah Ryan, O’Neil, Saunders, Melissa Lefave), fifth, 12:22; 4×100 (Madison Welch, Julie David, Diana Hallisey, Bogomolov), sixth, 59.2.BOYS TRACKCCL MeetFenwick finished second (99 points) to Cardinal Spellman (182 points).Top finishers for the Crusaders were: Senior captain Patrick Corcoran, won shot put (47-9) and discus (season-best 126-3); senior Matt O’Brien (qualified for states in pole vault with 10 feet; first time a Fenwick boys track team member has qualified for states since 1974) senior Bryan Mendes, won mile (4:38) and anchored winning 4×8 relay (9:14 total time) that also included Frank Tambini, Will Noftle and Eric Loehle; and Nick Tambini, second, 110 high hurdles, personal-best 16.9.St. Mary’s finished fifth with 53 points. Top performers for the Spartans were: Andrew DiMaiti, won 400 hurdles (57.3) and 200 (22.7), and sixth, triple jump (33-4); DiMaiti was voted Outstanding Performer in the 400 hurdles by league coaches; Tommy Deveau, third, javelin (123-11); Mike Ksander, fourth, 2-mile (11:20.6); Jordan Manthorne, fourth, 100 (11.9); Marvin Bony, fourth, 200 (23.8); 4×800 team of Ksander, Liam Foley, Alex Maghsoudi, Tony Mwangi, fourth (10:27).Catholic Conference MeetAt St. John’s, The Prep finished second (104 points), behind BC High (130 points).The Catholic Conference coaches voted Prep student-athlete Evan Dombrowski the Outstanding Performer of the League for 2013.
