Softball: Moore tosses a gem for Bishop Fenwick

The Fenwick softball team received a gem from junior pitcher Natalie Moore Wednesday night at East Boston. Moore threw a no-hitter in the Crusaders’ 12-0 victory against East Boston. Fenwick has now clinched a spot in the state tournament.Moore threw a five-inning no-hitter (game ended due to mercy rule). Moore struck out five, allowed zero runs and walked two.”This is quite an accomplishment for this young group of girls,” said Fenwick coach Paul Lyman. “I am pleased and relieved that we were able to qualify with two games still remaining.”Lynn native Lauren Donnelly (3-for-4, two-run home run, 3 RBI, 3 runs) had a big afternoon for the Crusaders, as did Gabby Hart (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 3 runs) and Jen Crovo (3-for-4, 3 runs, RBI).Lynnfield 6, Georgetown 2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (14-6) held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning and struck for three runs in the bottom of the third to pull away from Georgetown. Pioneer junior co-captain/pitcher Jackie Whelan stymied the Royals’ offense (7 innings, 4 hits, 2 unearned runs). Whelan also helped her own cause, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Hannah Travers (2 hits, run) also contributed. This was Lynnfield’s final regular-season game.Winthrop 8, Saugus 2At Saugus, the Vikings (13-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third and never looked back. Maura Lanza silenced the Sachems lineup (5 innings, 4 hits, 8 strikeouts, 0 runs, 3 walks). Jen Adamson set the tone for the Winthrop attack (3-for-4, double, 3 RBI, 2 runs). Freshman Olivia Grillo had another solid performance in her first year as a Viking (2-for-4, 2 runs scored). Michelle Lasala (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI, run) also chipped in.Danvers 15, Gloucester 1At Gloucester, the Falcons banged out 21 hits. Pitcher Kendall Meehan, who allowed three hits and struck out one, had a 4-for-5 night at the plate with six RBI. Chrissy Gikas also went 4-for-5 with an RBI.Beverly 3, Salem 1 (12 innings)At Salem, Beverly pitcher Emily Pitman struck out 10 and scattered 7 hits in 12 innings, and allowed one earned run on seven hits.Hannah Silvestri had a busy day at the plate, collecting three doubles, finishing 4-6. Aimee Mckenna went 3-3, with one double, and Natalie Shea went 2-4.Beverly is 8-12 and will play Danvers in the first round of the Corning Tournament Saturday.
