Finals in Clancy, Holland tournaments set

LYNN – St. Mary?s has made the finals of both the Nipper Clancy baseball and John Holland softball tournaments.The Spartans defeated Classical, 2-1, at Fraser Field in the Clancy late game while North Reading blanked English, 6-0. The loss means the Bulldogs cannot qualify for the upcoming MIAA Division 1 North tournament.English and Classical will meet a third time Monday at 1 p.m. in the Clancy consolation game. The Rams won both previous meetings.The Spartans will face North Reading for the championship at 4. The Hornets, defending state champion in Division, are looking to repeat as winners.In the Holland, St. Mary?s came from a 5-1 deficit to defeat Swampscott, 8-5. They will face Classical, which defeated English, 17-5 in a game that went six innings.The Big Blue can still qualify for the Division 3 North softball tournament win a win over English in Monday?s consolation game at Breed (4). St. Mary?s will look to win its fourth straight championship when it faces the Rams in the title game (6).The entire Courtney Corning softball tournament will be played Monday, beginning at 9 with Beverly vs. Danvers and 11 with Peabody vs. Bishop Fenwick. The consolation will be at 1 p.m. and the championship at 3.All game are at Endicott College.
