WESTFORD — A decision by two young Westford women to go “pool hopping” landed one of them in the hospital when she jumped into an empty pool, police said.
Emergency crews were called to a home early Monday for a report of an unconscious but breathing woman in the pool, which was under repair and had no water in it.
Police did not release the woman’s name. But Jane Gallagher told WBZ-TV that her 18-year-old daughter, Kelsey Gallagher, suffered a spinal injury, a fractured skull and a broken wrist when she jumped into the in-ground pool, which has a fence around it.
Pool owner Chester Cook said he did not know the women, who police say were engaged in a game of “pool hopping,” or taking a quick dip in strangers’ pools. He said the older of the two pounded on his door at about 12:30 a.m. Monday when her friend got hurt.
“I was really afraid she was seriously hurt,” said Cook, the town’s building inspector.
“I asked, I said, ‘Why did you pick on me?’ and the girl said, ‘Well, we were just riding by and we were just looking for a place to get cool,'” he said.
Police said they are considering trespassing charges against the women.
