SAUGUS – Saugus police identified the victim of an apparent fatal hit-and-run Friday morning on Route 107 as 24-year-old Yasin Ismail, of Boston.?We are investigating what we believe to be a fatal, hit-and-run pedestrian-motor vehicle accident,” said Assistant Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti. “We don?t have any information regarding the time of the accident or the make or model at this time. We have no witnesses at this time either.”According to the Saugus Police log, at 4:58 a.m. a caller reported that as she passed Ballard Street on Route 107, “she thought she saw human legs sticking out on the median.”Police shut down Route 107 at around 5:30 a.m. as the State Police and the State Medical Examiner also responded to the scene.At 6:11 a.m., the log states officers requested a white sheet to cover the body “as news helicopters are flying overhead.”Premier Heritage Funeral Home of Saugus arrived on scene and removed the body at 7:51 a.m., according to the log.Giorgetti said Saugus Police and the Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction unit are investigating and those to have any information about what happened are asked to call Saugus Police at 781-941-1181?We?re hoping the public can help us out on this so we can attempt to determine who?s responsible and take out any appropriate criminal charges if there are any violation,” said Giorgetti.The Daily Item staff is working on this story and will have additional details as they become available.
