SAUGUS – Saugus selectmen awarded citations to and congratulated a pair of Hannaford employees and a customer Tuesday night who helped thwart a robbery at the Route 1 location last month. On May 18, two employees, John Milito and Paul Buonopane, heard customer Rosa Visone cry for help after someone stole her wallet. The two sprung into action and chased after the alleged thief, who tossed the wallet as he ran away.At the same time, Emily Pelletier, whose husband works at Hannaford as well, was paying for groceries and also took action. Because Hannaford employees are not allowed to go beyond the store’s property line during work hours, she followed the suspect at a safe distance while keeping in contact with Saugus Police. When police arrived, they arrested Ronald Greene, of 54 Codman St., #3, Portland, Maine and charged him with larceny from a person and unarmed robbery on a person over 60.”I believe that this incident should be recognized because they went above and beyond to assist an individual in need,” said Jean Poole. “Kudos to them.”According to records from Lynn District Court, Greene was held on $1,500 bail at his arraignment on May 20 and was in court on June 13 for a probable cause hearing. Greene is due back in court on July 11.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
