LYNN — If you need a haircut and also might be in the market for some sports memorabilia, you’ll want to check out the new MLB Barbershiop at 2 Adams St., which held its grand opening celebration on Saturday.
Owner Brandy Soto said the shop featuring five barber chairs is also a sports memorabilia store, with thousands of items for sale, including baseballs signed by baseball greats Pedro Martinez and David Ortiz, and a piece of the bat Barry Bonds used to hit his 500th home run.
“Everything is authenticated,” said Soto, a Saugus resident who lived in Lynn for many years.
More than 250 attended Saturday’s grand opening, including Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy, State Rep. Robert Fennell and Ward 2 City Councilor William Trahant.
Soto said the shop is already seeing steady business, and that he intends to eventually support and sponsor sports clinics through the business and help local organizations including Girls Inc. and the Boys and Girls Club. He said he also hopes to schedule well-known sports figures to visit the shop for autograph sessions.
Soto said many friends helped to establish the shop including Heger Asenjo, whom he credits with coming up with the theme for the business, Nelson Cabral, Isaura Beltre, Peri Beltre and Alex Cabrera.
The owner’s mother, Iris Soto, and children Gio and Benjamin Soto were also on hand.
MLB Barbershop is open Monday though Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call the shop at 781-596-1900.
