The Lynn Babe Ruth 13-year-old all-star team finished its District 1 tournament Thursday, with a 16-5 win over Saugus.The Lynners finish the tournament at 4-1, and await the result of Friday’s Danvers game top see if they win the district outright. However, since Lynn is hosting the state championships, the team will get an automatic bid to it regardless of what happens.Thursday, Jonathan Nicosia pitched seven innings, striking out nine. Briston Maynard (2-for-4m, double, RBI), Eric Pedro (3-for-4, four RBI) and Kyle Bernadini (2-for-4, RBI) helped the offense.Babe Ruth 15sThe Saugus Babe Ruth 15s defeated Salem/Beverly, 13-3, Wednesday at Breed. Brendan Woods went all five innings (mercy rule). He had some help at the plate from Luke Surette (2 triples, double, 3 RBI) and Brendan Brocki (double, single, 2 RBI). Saugus scored eight runs in the first inning.On Tuesday night, Saugus defeated Peabody, 13-11, after jumping out early with six runs in the first inning. Surette got the win.Saugus (2-2) will play Danvers tonight at Lynn.
