LYNN – A judge ordered a city woman held for violating probation and set $10,000 cash bail for assault and robbery charges after police and witnesses said the woman jumped and robbed a mentally disabled man returning from the convenience store Monday evening.”While transporting her to the station she was screaming at this reporting officer that he would not give her the money,” Lynn Police Officer Paul Wonoski wrote in a report. “I finally asked (the defendant) ‘why would he be giving you money?’ She had no answer and finally calmed down.”Megan McCular, 27, of 551 Essex St. #7, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a person with an intellectual disability; unarmed robbery; and possession of Class C drugs; on Monday.The alleged victim’s mother reported to police her son had returned from the store sweating profusely, with a torn T-shirt and disheveled. The alleged victim told her a white female had robbed him, according to police.The victim’s mother said her son is 28 but has the mental capacity of a 5-year-old, police said. Police said the victim’s physical features clearly show that he has some type of mental impairment.The alleged victim told police a white female with black hair and a tattoo on her left shoulder punched him in the face while he was walking home from the Richdale convenience store at the corner of Essex and Washington streets, police said.The female then allegedly stole the money in the alleged victim’s pocket, an amount a friend of the victim’s said totaled $125, according to police. Police said the assailant then reportedly fled inside a building.Police interviewed two witnesses who said they saw McCular running after and punching a large black male – who they identified to police “as the one who is mentally slow and lives nearby” – when the man was on Rogers Avenue.Meanwhile, other officers were already at McCular’s home on a report she was “out of control,” according to police.Police arrested McCular, and the alleged victim positively identified McCular as his assailant, police said. Police found two clonazepam in McCular’s possession.Probation Officer Amy Simione requested McCular be held for a separate probation violation, to which McCular admitted, at McCular’s arraignment in Lynn District Court Tuesday.Assistant District Attorney Mark Byron requested $10,000 cash bail for the new charges.Court-appointed attorney Mary Teczar requested a defense attorney be able to argue bail at a further date if McCular was held.Judge James LaMothe ordered McCular held on a probation violation and he accepted the request for $10,000 cash bail on the new charges.McCular is scheduled to return to court Aug. 14.Cyrus Moulton can be reached at [email protected].
