Ceremony to honor Lynn Eagle Scout

LYNN – His goal is to become a doctor and Joseph Field, at the age of 18, has already achieved success by completing the work leading up to his Boy Scouts of America Eagle ceremony today in the Sacred Heart School gymnasium.The Court of Honor ceremony will place Field at the pinnacle of his eight-year scouting career. As a member of Troop 80 based at the Knights of Columbus, Field completed the merit badge, leadership, scouting project and review board scrutiny required to become an Eagle.Field summed up his accomplishment with a quote included in the program outlining his Court of Honor ceremony.”To me, the Eagle Badge means being a good influence to other scouts,” he said.Field graduated seventh in his class from Classical High School and is attending Boston University this fall where he plans to undertake preliminary studies toward earning a medical degree.”He is very competitive,” said his father, Richard.Joseph Field’s older brother, Richard, is an Eagle Scout and he has two sisters.According to his scouting resume, Field joined Troop 80 run by Matt and Carol Greco in 2005 and earned First Class Scout status in November 2006.He earned Star Scout status a year later and Life Rank in 2008. An Eagle Scout’s accomplishments include earning 21 merit badges, troop leadership experience, six months of Life Scout experience, and completing an Eagle project and passing a board of review.Field’s project involved organizing family members and other volunteers to create a self-guided walking path from the Lynn Museum to LynnArts Inc. He has held six scouting leadership positions and he completed his review on March 18.Field was swim team captain at Classical, and his academic award and scholarship list includes the Agganis Foundation Scholarship.He is working his third summer as a Camp Rotary counselor.Richard Field and his wife, Donna, will be on hand today for their son’s Eagle ceremony. Field said he is not surprised his son accomplished scouting’s toughest challenge.”He is very tenacious,” Field said. “He perseveres through whatever is thrown at him.”Thor Jourgensen can be reached at [email protected].
