LYNN – The season is over for the Lynn Babe Ruth 13s. There are no more games, as the Lynners dropped a pair of state tournament games this weekend, 24-11 Saturday to Maplewood of Fall River; and 14-3 Sunday over Plymouth. And, as manager Ed Cash hopes, the players on the team learned a little this year about how difficult the transition from the Little League to the big diamond can be.”It was a long weekend,” said Cash Sunday. “We had some good moments. I’d like to acknowledge our pitcher today, Jonathan Nicosia, because he carried us throughout the tournament. We also got good performances from Eric Pedro (Sunday). And we got some good defense from (Quinn) Brinkler at second base.””However,” he said, “there were just too many mistakes, errors, etc. Hopefully, the kidsi will learn from it and understand what it takes to play at this level next year.”It was simply Plymouth’s day. Jake Staziowski (5 RBI) and Josh Plante (two) led the way on offense as Plymouth just steadily pulled away, scoring three runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and, finally, six in the fifth. Staziowski closed out the day with a booming triple that officially put the game at the 10-run rule limit, and then score the 14th run on a daring bit of baserunning on the play, getting himself out of a rundown and eventually scoring. For Lynn, Kyle Bernadini knocked in the first run in the third inning. His single brought home Pedro, who had tripled. Joe Marini produced the other two, singling home Brison Maynard and Bernadini.Saturday, despite the loss, Cash said Bernadini had three RBI, as did Pedro. Maynard and Marini also chipped in with RBI, and Travis Ryan had a good day defensively.
