SAUGUS – A Saugus Police officer is under investigation after the cruiser he was driving struck a woman while she was crossing the street on Friday, according to Saugus Police Chief Dominic DiMella.DiMella said Saturday “there were no significant injuries” to the woman or the officer, who he said was on duty at the time of the accident.He did not release the officer’s name, citing the department’s investigation.The accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue in Saugus, according to DiMella.The Saugus Police log said the accident occurred outside the Eastern Bank on 466 Lincoln Avenue. According to the narrative by the police dispatcher, an officer involved said the pedestrian was in a crosswalk.The log identifies the victim as a 70-year-old woman. She was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said Sunday evening that the woman was treated and released.He did not release any other details Saturday.
